The Cottage
Book Shop

Nestled in the heart of Sleeping
Bear National Lakeshore in Northwestern Michigan, The Cottage Book Shop has been
servicing the small summer resort community of Glen Arbor for close to twenty
years.

Barbara Siepker purchased The
Cottage Book Shop in 1995 from Mollie Weeks.
Ten years earlier,
Mollie began the store in a
small cabin on Western Avenue.
Barbara moved the store to the Arbor
Light Building in 1995. Three years later, after locating the cabin and finding
a lot across the street, the store moved into the log cabin in time for the
summer's rush in 1999. The first resort log cabin on Glen Lake, built by the
cousin of Glen Haven's first entrepreneur, D.H. Day, The Cottage Book Shop's
cabin blends well with the spirit of Lake Street neighbors Cherry Republic and
Lake Street Studios.
Life at
the bookshop is one of positive energy flowing among staff and customers as
books are eagerly discussed and favorites shared. It quickly becomes a staple
to all visitors---whether passing through town for a weekend or returning to a
second home for summer---who catch up on local news and support local
businesses.
The Cottage Book Shop is full of
Northern Michigan treasures, from this canoe book case, to the chipmunk who
frequents the back porch and cookie jar, to the chess set on the back porch.
