For close to twenty years The Cottage Book Shop has had an earned customer appreciation discount based on the purchase of new books. At first purchase receipts were stamped, one of Clifford's paw prints for every $10 purchase of new books, were kept and brought back by customers.

Six paw prints earns the 15% discount on the entire next purchase of new books.

After some time, a customer suggested we keep a card file with customer keeping track of these paws, which have since morphed into points. We located an old library card file and now customers take care of their own cards and points. Every now and then we suggest our computer could keep track for us, but somehow the old system prevails. Perhaps it is because it challenges our memory and alphabetical skills. Occasionally an old puppy paw receipt is found in a desk or glove compartment and is brought in and added to the card, as paws never expire.
