Local History Project
The Cottage Book Shop is undergoing a research venture, to preserve the rich history of our area. Oral interviews are being conducted of old-time Glen Lake residents to capture the essence of early resort life. Family histories, architects and builders from residences prior to 1950 are unearthed to gather together a meaningful collection of local history. Volunteers Cynthia Dougal, Sarah Litch, and Barbara Siepker would be thrilled to hear from you about relevant stories, photographs and postcards for the project. Dietrich Floeter has been documenting the cottages through large format photographs. Barbara Siepker has been awarded the 2004 Edmund Ball Fellowship by the Leelanau Historical Society. A show of Historic Glen Lake Cottages was presented during summer and fall 2005 at the Leelanau Historical Museum in Leland, MI.
Look for December,
2007, release date for Historic Glen Lake Cottages with Dietrich Floeter's
black and white photography of the interiors of fifty cottages and line
drawings of the exteriors by Lou Heiser. Research and text is by Barbara
Siepker.
